Whiter teeth at your convenience!

One of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures available today is, without a doubt, teeth whitening. Both fast acting and with noticeable results, it is also one of the most affordable cosmetic dental treatments available.

Discoloured teeth can occur not only from external staining, such as through smoking or drinking coffee, but also occurs in the inner part of the tooth which naturally darkens as we get older. Home brushing has no effect on this part of the tooth and a professional teeth whitening procedure is the only option available to restore the whiteness of your teeth.

In Surgery Teeth Whitening

At 186 Park Road Dental Practice, we offer our patients two options for having their teeth whitened, either at home or at our comfortable surgery. Both methods are equally efficient but offer a choice of options to suit each patient’s preferences.

The fastest acting teeth whitening procedure is our ‘in surgery’ method. First of all, we protect your gums and lips before applying fast-acting whitening gel to your teeth. Once this has been applied, a special light is then used which speeds up the active whitening ingredient in the gel.

This process takes approximately one hour and is ideal for anyone wishing to see near instant results. Once completed, an improvement of up to eight shades of whiteness could be seen.

At Home Teeth Whitening

At home teeth whitening

Teeth whitening done at home is also an effective method and allows you to progress at your own pace. To reduce any small risk of burning from the whitening paste, trays are made using accurate impressions taken of your teeth. By doing this, we ensure that they fit tightly and comfortably whilst also reducing the risk of any potential leakage.

The trays are worn for a few hours a day over a period of 10 days. Whilst many patients do seek out the whitest smile possible, anyone wishing to improve the whiteness just a few shades may simply wear the trays for a shorter period of time. All of this can be discussed at your consultation where our friendly team will be very pleased to advise.

Side effects from a teeth whitening procedure are rarely reported but occasionally heightened sensitivity can happen. This is temporary and should last just a few days, during which very hot or cold drinks should be avoided.

Where the teeth are very heavily stained and where teeth whitening may not be sufficient, we may suggest dental veneers as a more efficient, long-term way of having great looking teeth and achieving a beautiful smile.
